corpse flower
The corpse flower, scientifically known as Amorphophallus titanum, is a large flowering plant native to the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is famous for its enormous size and unique odor, which resembles that of rotting flesh. This smell attracts pollinators like carrion beetles and flesh flies, which are drawn to decaying organic matter.
The corpse flower can grow up to 10 feet tall and takes several years to bloom. Its bloom lasts only a few days, making it a rare and exciting event for botanists and plant enthusiasts. After flowering, the plant produces a large, umbrella-like leaf that can grow even taller than the flower itself.
