Amorphophallus titanum
Amorphophallus titanum, commonly known as the corpse flower, is a large flowering plant native to the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is famous for its enormous inflorescence, which can reach up to 10 feet in height. The plant emits a strong odor resembling that of rotting flesh, attracting pollinators like carrion beetles and flesh flies.
The corpse flower has a unique life cycle, taking several years to bloom. After flowering, it produces a large, single leaf that can grow up to 15 feet wide, which helps the plant gather energy for its next bloom. This rare event draws significant public interest and is often celebrated in botanical gardens.
