contusions
A contusion, commonly known as a bruise, occurs when small blood vessels under the skin break due to an impact or injury. This results in bleeding beneath the skin, causing a discoloration that can range from purple to yellow as it heals. Contusions can happen anywhere on the body and are often accompanied by swelling and tenderness.
Treatment for a contusion typically involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation, often referred to as the RICE method. Most contusions heal on their own within a few days to weeks, but severe cases may require medical attention to rule out more serious injuries, such as fractures.
