Zika
Zika is a viral infection primarily spread by the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, particularly Aedes aegypti. It can also be transmitted through sexual contact and from mother to fetus during pregnancy. Symptoms are usually mild and may include fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis. Most people recover without needing special treatment.
The infection gained global attention due to its association with serious birth defects, such as microcephaly, when pregnant women are infected. While there is no specific treatment or vaccine for Zika, preventive measures focus on reducing mosquito exposure and controlling mosquito populations in affected areas.
