Zen Buddhist
Zen Buddhism is a school of Buddhism that emphasizes meditation and direct experience over theoretical knowledge. Originating in China as Chan Buddhism, it later spread to Japan and became known as Zen. Practitioners focus on mindfulness and the practice of zazen, or seated meditation, to gain insight into the nature of reality and achieve enlightenment.
Central to Zen is the concept of satori, or sudden awakening, which can occur through meditation or everyday experiences. Zen teachings often use paradoxical statements called koans to challenge conventional thinking and encourage deeper understanding. The simplicity and directness of Zen practice appeal to many seeking spiritual growth.
