Zaydi
The Zaydi are a branch of the Shia sect of Islam, primarily found in Yemen. They follow the teachings of Zayd ibn Ali, the grandson of Husayn ibn Ali, and emphasize the importance of social justice and political activism. Zaydis believe in the right of the community to choose its leader, which distinguishes them from other Shia groups.
Zaydi Islam has a rich history, particularly in northern Yemen, where it has influenced local culture and politics. The Zaydi imamate, a form of governance led by Zaydi leaders, existed for nearly a thousand years until the 1962 revolution. Today, Zaydis continue to play a significant role in Yemen's socio-political landscape.
