Yuman-Cochimí
The Yuman-Cochimí are indigenous peoples primarily located in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. They are part of the larger Yuman language family, which includes several related languages spoken by various tribes. Historically, the Yuman-Cochimí people engaged in hunting, gathering, and fishing, adapting to the diverse environments of the Sonoran Desert and coastal regions.
The Cochimí specifically inhabited the Baja California peninsula, while the broader Yuman groups extended into areas like California and Arizona. Today, efforts are being made to preserve their languages and cultural heritage, as many of these communities face challenges related to modernization and loss of traditional practices.
