Yuman–Cochimí
The Yuman–Cochimí language family is a group of indigenous languages spoken primarily in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It includes languages such as Cochimí, Kumeyaay, and Quechan, which are part of the larger Yuman family. These languages are characterized by their unique phonetic and grammatical structures, reflecting the cultural heritage of the communities that speak them.
Historically, the Yuman–Cochimí peoples inhabited regions along the Colorado River and the Baja California Peninsula. Their languages are vital for preserving their cultural identity and traditions. Efforts are ongoing to revitalize these languages, as many speakers have diminished over the years due to external influences and modernization.
