Yi ethnic group
The Yi ethnic group is one of the 55 officially recognized ethnic minorities in China. Primarily found in the provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan, and Guizhou, the Yi people have a rich cultural heritage, including unique traditions, music, and dance. They speak the Yi language, which belongs to the Lolo-Burmese branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family.
Traditionally, the Yi people are known for their agricultural practices, cultivating crops like rice and corn. They celebrate various festivals, with the Torch Festival being one of the most significant, showcasing their vibrant customs and community spirit. The Yi also have a distinct clothing style, often featuring colorful patterns and embroidery.
