Torch Festival
The Torch Festival is a traditional celebration held by the Yi people in southwestern China, particularly in the provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan. This vibrant festival usually takes place in the summer, around the time of the lunar calendar's sixth month. It features various activities, including torch lighting, singing, dancing, and competitive sports, all aimed at promoting community spirit and cultural heritage.
During the festival, large torches made of wood and straw are lit and carried through the streets, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and evil spirits. The event also includes traditional food, music, and performances, showcasing the rich customs of the Yi culture. The Torch Festival is not only a time for celebration but also an important occasion for social gatherings and strengthening community bonds.
