Yarmouk
Yarmouk is a Palestinian refugee camp located in the southern suburbs of Damascus, Syria. Established in 1957, it was initially intended to provide housing for Palestinians displaced during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Over the years, it grew into a vibrant community with shops, schools, and cultural institutions.
The camp has faced significant challenges, especially during the Syrian Civil War, which began in 2011. It became a battleground, leading to severe humanitarian crises and displacement of its residents. Despite these hardships, Yarmouk remains a symbol of Palestinian identity and resilience.
