Wingate method
The Wingate method is a high-intensity exercise protocol used primarily to assess and improve anaerobic power and capacity. It typically involves a short, all-out effort on a stationary bike, lasting 30 seconds, where the participant pedals against a predetermined resistance. This test measures peak power output, average power, and fatigue index, providing valuable insights into an athlete's performance.
Developed by Dr. A. M. Wingate in the 1970s, the method is widely used in sports science and fitness settings. It helps coaches and trainers evaluate an athlete's anaerobic fitness and tailor training programs to enhance performance in sports that require short bursts of intense effort.
