Waris Dirie
Waris Dirie is a Somali model, author, and human rights activist, born on January 21, 1965, in Galkayo, Somalia. She gained international fame in the 1990s as a model, working with major fashion brands and appearing in prominent magazines.
In addition to her modeling career, Dirie is known for her advocacy against female genital mutilation (FGM). After experiencing FGM herself, she became a vocal critic of the practice and founded the Desert Flower Foundation to raise awareness and support victims. Her autobiography, "Desert Flower," details her life and struggles, further amplifying her message.
