Volcanoes of Auvergne
The Volcanoes of Auvergne are a group of volcanic formations located in the Massif Central region of France. This area features around 80 dormant volcanoes, with the most notable being Puy de Dôme, which rises to 1,465 meters. These volcanoes were formed during the Quaternary period, primarily through basaltic lava flows.
The region is part of the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage site recognized for its geological significance. The Volcanoes of Auvergne attract tourists and researchers alike, offering opportunities for hiking, exploring unique landscapes, and studying volcanic activity.
