Vassal State
A vassal state is a political entity that is subordinate to a more powerful state, often referred to as a suzerain. In this relationship, the vassal state typically pays tribute or provides military support in exchange for protection and autonomy over its internal affairs. This arrangement can be seen throughout history, particularly during the feudal system in medieval Europe.
Vassal states can also be found in modern contexts, where a country may exert influence over another without direct control. Examples include certain territories or regions that rely on a larger nation for defense and economic support while maintaining some degree of self-governance.
