Protectorate
A protectorate is a political arrangement where a stronger state provides protection and governance to a weaker state, while allowing it some degree of autonomy. This relationship often arises when the weaker state lacks the resources or military strength to defend itself against external threats. The stronger state typically controls foreign affairs and defense, while the local government manages internal matters.
Historically, many regions have been established as protectorates, such as the British Protectorate of Egypt in the late 19th century. This arrangement can benefit both parties, as the protectorate gains security, while the protector providing protection can expand its influence and resources.
