Usman dan Fodio
Usman dan Fodio was a prominent Islamic scholar and reformer in the early 19th century, known for leading the Fulani Jihad in what is now northern Nigeria. He aimed to purify Islam and establish a more orthodox practice among the local Muslim population, which he believed had strayed from true teachings.
His efforts resulted in the establishment of the Sokoto Caliphate, a significant Islamic state that became a center of learning and culture. Usman dan Fodio's legacy includes his writings on Islamic theology and governance, which continue to influence Islamic thought in West Africa today.
