Unified Communist Party of Nepal
The Unified Communist Party of Nepal (UCPN) was formed in 2008 through the merger of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Unity Centre). It aimed to promote Marxist-Leninist principles and address issues like social justice, economic development, and national sovereignty in Nepal. The party played a significant role in the country's civil war and subsequent peace process.
The UCPN was a major political force in Nepal, participating in the drafting of the new constitution and advocating for federalism. However, internal divisions led to a split in 2016, resulting in the formation of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre). The party's influence has since fluctuated in Nepal's dynamic political landscape.
