USS Preble (APD-70)
The USS Preble (APD-70) was a high-speed transport ship of the United States Navy, launched in 1944. It was named after Commodore Edward Preble, a naval officer known for his role in the First Barbary War. The ship was designed to transport troops and equipment quickly, supporting amphibious operations during World War II and later conflicts.
After serving in the Pacific Theater, the USS Preble was decommissioned in 1946. It was later reclassified as a radar picket ship and served in various roles until it was finally struck from the naval register in 1970. The ship's legacy continues to be honored by the Navy and its veterans.
