Tree Tapping
Tree tapping is the process of extracting sap from certain trees, primarily maple trees. This sap is collected during the late winter and early spring when temperatures fluctuate between freezing at night and warmer during the day. The sap flows more freely during this time, making it ideal for collection.
To tap a tree, a small hole is drilled into the trunk, and a spout is inserted to direct the sap into a container. The collected sap can then be processed to produce maple syrup or other products. This sustainable practice has been used for centuries and is an important part of North American culture.
