Transurethral Resection
Transurethral Resection (TUR) is a surgical procedure used to remove tissue from the bladder or prostate through the urethra. This minimally invasive technique is commonly performed to treat conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or bladder tumors. During the procedure, a thin instrument called a resectoscope is inserted into the urethra, allowing the surgeon to cut away excess tissue.
The benefits of TUR include reduced recovery time and minimal scarring compared to open surgery. Patients typically experience less pain and a shorter hospital stay. However, like any surgery, TUR carries risks, including bleeding and infection, which should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
