Tigranes II
Tigranes II, also known as Tigranes the Great, was a king of Armenia who reigned from 95 to 55 BCE. He is best known for expanding the Armenian Empire to its greatest territorial extent, incorporating parts of modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Iran. Tigranes established his capital at Tigranocerta, a city he built to showcase his power and wealth.
During his reign, Tigranes formed alliances with powerful neighbors, including the Roman Republic. However, his expansionist ambitions eventually led to conflict with Rome, particularly during the campaigns of Lucullus. Tigranes was ultimately defeated, and his kingdom was reduced in size, marking the decline of his empire.
