Artaxias I was a prominent king of ancient Armenia, ruling from approximately 190 to 160 BCE. He is best known for founding the Artaxiad dynasty, which played a significant role in the region's history. Under his leadership, Armenia expanded its territory and influence, establishing itself as a powerful kingdom in the Near East. Artaxias I is also credited with the development of the city of Artaxata, which became the capital of Armenia. His reign marked a period of cultural and political growth, as he sought to strengthen Armenia's position against neighboring powers, including Parthia and the Seleucid Empire.
