Tibetan Exile Community
The Tibetan Exile Community refers to the group of Tibetans who fled their homeland, primarily after the 1950s, due to the Chinese government's control over Tibet. Many of these exiles settled in countries like India, Nepal, and Bhutan, where they established communities to preserve their culture, language, and traditions.
In India, the Tibetan government-in-exile was formed in 1960, led by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This community focuses on advocating for Tibetan rights, promoting non-violence, and seeking autonomy for Tibet. They also work to maintain their unique cultural identity through education, religious practices, and cultural events.
