Thrombotic Microangiopathies
Thrombotic Microangiopathies (TMAs) are a group of disorders characterized by the formation of small blood clots in the microcirculation, leading to damage in small blood vessels. This condition can result in organ dysfunction, particularly affecting the kidneys, brain, and heart. Common types of TMAs include Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) and Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS).
The underlying mechanisms of TMAs often involve an imbalance in the regulation of blood clotting and platelet function. Symptoms may include low platelet counts, anemia, and organ-related issues. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent severe complications and improve patient outcomes.
