Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome
Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) is a serious condition that primarily affects the kidneys. It often occurs after an infection, particularly from certain strains of Escherichia coli (E. coli), which can cause severe diarrhea. HUS leads to the destruction of red blood cells, low platelet counts, and kidney failure, making it a critical health issue.
Symptoms of HUS include abdominal pain, vomiting, and decreased urine output. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests and urine analysis. Treatment may require hospitalization, and in severe cases, patients might need dialysis to support kidney function while they recover.
