Third Anglo-Maratha War
The Third Anglo-Maratha War (1817-1818) was a conflict between the British East India Company and the Maratha Empire in India. It marked the final phase of the struggle for dominance in India, following earlier wars. The British aimed to consolidate their power and eliminate the Maratha threat, leading to a series of battles across the subcontinent.
The war concluded with the defeat of the Marathas, resulting in the dissolution of their empire. The British established direct control over much of India, significantly expanding their territory. This war set the stage for British colonial rule, which lasted until the mid-20th century.
