First Anglo-Maratha War
The First Anglo-Maratha War (1775-1782) was a conflict between the British East India Company and the Maratha Empire in India. The war began due to disputes over succession and territorial control, particularly after the death of the Maratha leader Baji Rao II. The British aimed to expand their influence in India, while the Marathas sought to maintain their power.
The war saw several battles, including the notable Battle of Pune and Battle of Surat. Ultimately, the conflict ended with the Treaty of Salbai in 1782, which restored the status quo and allowed both sides to retain their territories, setting the stage for future interactions.
