The Toll House
The Toll House is a historic site located in Whitman, Massachusetts. It was built in the late 18th century and served as a toll collection point for travelers on the road between Boston and Plymouth. The building is notable for its colonial architecture and its role in the region's transportation history.
In 1938, the Toll House gained fame when Ruth Wakefield, the owner at the time, created the first chocolate chip cookie by adding chocolate morsels to her cookie dough. This recipe became popular and led to the creation of the Toll House Cookie, which remains a beloved dessert today.
