Texas Horned Lizard
The Texas Horned Lizard, also known as the horny toad, is a small reptile native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is easily recognized by its flattened body, spiky horns, and camouflaged skin, which helps it blend into its desert surroundings. This lizard primarily feeds on ants and other small insects.
Texas Horned Lizards are known for their unique defense mechanisms. When threatened, they can puff up their bodies to appear larger and may even squirt blood from their eyes to deter predators. They prefer arid habitats, such as grasslands and scrublands, where they can find shelter under rocks and vegetation.
