Horned Lizards
Horned lizards, also known as horned toads, are a group of reptiles belonging to the family Phrynosomatidae. They are characterized by their flattened bodies and distinctive horns or spines on their heads, which help them blend into their desert habitats. These lizards primarily inhabit arid regions in the western United States, Mexico, and parts of Central America.
These lizards are known for their unique defense mechanisms. When threatened, they can puff up their bodies to appear larger and may even squirt blood from their eyes to deter predators. Horned lizards primarily feed on ants and other small insects, making them important contributors to their ecosystems.
