Desert Horned Lizard
The Desert Horned Lizard, also known as the Phrynosoma platyrhinos, is a small reptile found primarily in the arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. This lizard is easily recognized by its flattened body, spiny horns, and distinctive coloration, which helps it blend into its desert surroundings. It primarily feeds on ants and other small insects.
Desert Horned Lizards are well-adapted to their environment, using their flattened bodies to absorb heat from the sun. They can also puff up their bodies to appear larger when threatened. These lizards are known for their unique defense mechanism of shooting blood from their eyes to deter predators.
