Te Kooti Arikirangi Te Turuki
Te Kooti Arikirangi Te Turuki was a Māori leader and founder of the Ringatū faith in New Zealand during the 19th century. Born around 1832, he became known for his resistance against British colonial rule and was a prominent figure in the New Zealand Wars. Te Kooti was imprisoned for his actions but later escaped and led a guerrilla campaign against colonial forces.
In 1867, he established the Ringatū religion, which combined elements of Christianity with Māori beliefs. Te Kooti's teachings emphasized spiritual guidance and self-determination for Māori people. He is remembered as a significant leader in Māori history and culture.
