Tayassu
Tayassu, commonly known as the peccary, is a medium-sized mammal found primarily in the Americas. They belong to the family Tayassuidae and are often mistaken for pigs due to their similar appearance. There are three main species: the collared peccary, the white-lipped peccary, and the Chacoan peccary. Tayassus are social animals, typically living in groups and foraging for fruits, roots, and small animals.
These animals play a crucial role in their ecosystems by helping to disperse seeds and maintain plant diversity. Tayassu have a keen sense of smell and are known for their vocalizations, which include grunts and barks. They are primarily found in forests, grasslands, and savannas, adapting well to various habitats across their range.
