Tarquin the Elder
Tarquin the Elder, also known as Lucius Tarquinius Priscus, was the fifth king of ancient Rome. He reigned from around 616 to 579 BCE and is credited with significant contributions to the city's development, including the construction of the Circus Maximus and the expansion of the Roman Senate. His rule marked a period of growth and prosperity for Rome.
He was of Etruscan origin and came to power after marrying Tanaquil, a noblewoman. Tarquin the Elder's reign ended when he was assassinated, leading to the rise of his son, Servius Tullius, who succeeded him as king. His legacy influenced the future of Roman governance and architecture.
