Taranaki Maunga
Taranaki Maunga, also known as Mount Taranaki, is a dormant stratovolcano located on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island. Rising to 2,518 meters, it is the second highest peak in the North Island and is renowned for its symmetrical cone shape. The mountain is surrounded by the Egmont National Park, which features diverse ecosystems and numerous walking tracks.
The mountain holds significant cultural importance for the Taranaki iwi (tribes) and is considered a sacred site. Its last eruption occurred in 1854, and since then, it has been closely monitored for volcanic activity. Taranaki Maunga is a popular destination for hiking, climbing, and photography.
