Tahafut al-Falasifa
Tahafut al-Falasifa, or "The Incoherence of the Philosophers," is a significant work by the Islamic philosopher Al-Ghazali. Written in the 11th century, it critiques the rationalist philosophy of the Islamic Golden Age, particularly the ideas of Aristotle and the Peripatetic philosophers. Al-Ghazali argues that their views on metaphysics and the nature of God are inconsistent with Islamic teachings.
In this text, Al-Ghazali addresses key philosophical concepts such as causality and the eternity of the world. His arguments aim to defend Islamic theology against philosophical interpretations that he believes undermine faith. The work has had a lasting impact on Islamic thought and the relationship between philosophy and religion.
