Sutjeska Battle
The Sutjeska Battle was a significant military engagement during World War II, taking place from May 15 to June 15, 1943, in the Sutjeska Valley of present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina. It involved the Yugoslav Partisans, led by Josip Broz Tito, fighting against Axis forces, primarily composed of German and Italian troops. The battle was part of a larger campaign to suppress the Partisan movement in Yugoslavia.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Partisans managed to execute a strategic retreat while inflicting considerable casualties on the enemy. The battle is often regarded as a turning point for the Partisan forces, boosting their morale and solidifying their position in the region.
