Sumatran rhino
The Sumatran rhino is one of the smallest and most endangered species of rhinoceros. Native to the dense forests of Sumatra and Borneo, it has a distinctive appearance with a hairy body and two horns. This solitary herbivore primarily feeds on leaves, fruits, and shrubs, playing a crucial role in its ecosystem by helping to maintain plant diversity.
With an estimated population of fewer than 80 individuals, the Sumatran rhino faces severe threats from habitat loss and poaching. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this species, including habitat preservation and breeding programs in captivity, to ensure its survival for future generations.
