Sultan Selim II
Sultan Selim II, also known as Selim the Sot, was the 11th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, reigning from 1566 to 1574. He was the son of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Hurrem Sultan. Selim's rule is often noted for its military campaigns, particularly against the Safavid Empire in Persia, and for the expansion of the empire's territories.
Despite his military ambitions, Selim II is often characterized by his lack of interest in governance and his indulgent lifestyle. He spent much of his time in the Topkapi Palace, focusing on pleasures rather than state affairs. His reign marked a period of transition for the Ottoman Empire, as it began to face internal challenges and external threats.
