Sugar Cane
Sugar cane is a tall, perennial grass that belongs to the genus Saccharum. It is primarily grown in tropical and subtropical regions for its high sugar content, which is extracted and processed to produce sugar. The plant can grow up to 20 feet tall and has thick, jointed stems that store sugar.
Harvesting sugar cane typically involves cutting the stalks close to the ground. After harvesting, the cane is crushed to extract the juice, which is then boiled down to produce sugar crystals. In addition to sugar, sugar cane is also used to make molasses, rum, and biofuels.
