Stone-Curlews
Stone-Curlews, also known as Burhinus oedicnemus, are large, ground-dwelling birds found in open habitats like grasslands and agricultural fields. They have long legs, large eyes, and a distinctive, thick bill. Their plumage is mottled brown and gray, providing excellent camouflage against the ground.
These birds are primarily nocturnal, feeding on insects, small mammals, and plant material at night. Stone-Curlews are known for their unique, eerie calls, which they use to communicate with each other. They typically nest on the ground, laying eggs in shallow scrapes, making them vulnerable to predators and human activities.
