Eurasian Stone-Curlew
The Eurasian Stone-Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus) is a large, ground-dwelling bird found across Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It has a distinctive appearance with long legs, a large head, and yellow eyes. This bird prefers open habitats like grasslands, farmland, and rocky areas, where it can easily spot predators.
Eurasian Stone-Curlews are primarily nocturnal, feeding on insects, small mammals, and other invertebrates at night. They are known for their unique call, which sounds like a mournful "curlew." During the breeding season, they lay eggs in shallow scrapes on the ground, making them vulnerable to predators.
