Stone of Scone
The Stone of Scone, also known as the Stone of Destiny, is a historic symbol of Scottish monarchy. Traditionally, it was used in the coronation of Scottish kings, believed to have been brought to Scotland from Ireland in the 6th century. The stone is made of sandstone and measures about 26 inches long.
In 1296, the Stone of Scone was taken to England by King Edward I as a trophy of war. It remained in Westminster Abbey until 1996 when it was returned to Scotland. Today, it is housed in Edinburgh Castle and is an important cultural artifact for Scotland.
