Statius
Statius was a Roman poet who lived during the 1st century AD, known for his epic poetry and dramatic works. His most famous poem, the Thebaid, tells the story of the conflict between the brothers Eteocles and Polynices, drawing on themes of fate and heroism. Statius was highly regarded in his time and influenced later poets, including Virgil and Ovid.
In addition to the Thebaid, Statius wrote the Achilleid, an unfinished epic about the hero Achilles. He also composed a collection of poems called the Silvae, which are more personal and reflect on various themes, including nature and art. Statius's work is significant for its rich language and exploration of human emotions.
