Star of Africa I
The "Star of Africa I" is a large diamond weighing 530.2 carats, originally discovered in South Africa in 1905. It is the largest clear cut diamond in the world and was named after its country of origin. The diamond is part of the British Crown Jewels and is set in the head of the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross.
The diamond was cut from a larger stone known as the Cullinan diamond, which weighed an astonishing 3,106 carats. The Cullinan diamond was presented to King Edward VII as a gift, and its subsequent cutting produced several other famous diamonds, including the Cullinan II.
