St. Clair's Defeat
St. Clair's Defeat, also known as the Battle of the Wabash, occurred on November 4, 1791. It was a significant conflict between the United States forces, led by General Arthur St. Clair, and a confederation of Native American tribes. The battle took place near the Wabash River in present-day Indiana and was part of the larger struggle for control over the Northwest Territory.
The Native American forces, led by Little Turtle and Blue Jacket, achieved a decisive victory, inflicting heavy casualties on St. Clair's troops. This defeat was one of the worst in U.S. military history, with around 900 soldiers killed or wounded, and it highlighted the challenges faced by the early United States in its expansion efforts.
