Northwest Indian War
The Northwest Indian War (1785-1795) was a conflict between the United States and a coalition of Native American tribes in the Northwest Territory. The war arose from American expansion into lands that Native Americans had inhabited for centuries. Key tribes involved included the Miami, Shawnee, and Delaware, who sought to protect their territories from encroachment.
The conflict saw several significant battles, including the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794, where American forces led by General Anthony Wayne defeated the Native American coalition. The war concluded with the signing of the Treaty of Greenville in 1795, which established boundaries and opened up much of present-day Ohio to American settlement.
