St. Adalbert of Prague
St. Adalbert of Prague, also known as St. Vojtěch, was a 10th-century bishop and missionary. Born around 956 in Bohemia, he played a crucial role in spreading Christianity in Central Europe. He was known for his dedication to reforming the church and promoting education among the clergy.
Adalbert faced challenges in his mission, including opposition from local rulers. He eventually traveled to Hungary and Poland, where he continued his work. He was martyred in 997 while attempting to convert the Prussians. Today, he is venerated as a saint in both the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church.
