St. Adalbert
St. Adalbert, also known as Saint Adalbert of Prague, was a 10th-century bishop and missionary. He played a significant role in the Christianization of the Slavic peoples in Central Europe, particularly in Bohemia. Born around 956, he became the Bishop of Prague and was known for his dedication to spreading Christianity and reforming the church.
Adalbert faced challenges during his mission, including opposition from local rulers. He eventually left his diocese and traveled to Hungary and Poland to continue his work. He was martyred in 997 while attempting to convert the Prussians, and he is venerated as a saint in both the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church.
